Nail in new tire....is this a safe place to plug/patch or should I replace it?

Guys,
I ran over a nail yesterday and was told by the tire store I need a new tire, which does not surprise me.

Is this safe to plug/patch or should I replace it? It's a 20 inch tire on an Audi s5...I like driving fast too.

I guess my question is, is that really too close to the sidewall to repair, like the tire sales guy told me? Or is it really not safe....

in my opinion, it's a coin flip which to me is not worth the risk.

Pretty close to the sidewall.. a plug will give way eventually and you dont want that to happen at speed on the highway... I recommend replacing too, just not worth a mishap.

Replace. Not worth the risk. And plugging a tire is a bad choice. I say always patch or replace.

Replace. And judging by the pics, quite a bit of wear? Consider replacing the opposite tire as well.
