It really comes down to what kind of music this person likes to play, and what kind of stuff, if any, they have already (amplifier, and so on).

If they have prior experience, I wouldn't hesitate to go with a Les Paul for an electric. Personally I think a Stratocaster is the easiest guitar to play. Also sub $1500 range it's one of the best if not the best. I have a couple Les Pauls, a Flying V, and an American Strat. I find the Strat easiest because it's a double cutaway, but I think this probably has more to do with how I set up my LP's than anything. I wouldn't rule out an SG standard or a variant of the SG, that or a Les Paul Studio should be under $1500.

For an acoustic, I prefer Taylor or Martin.

Oh now we're getting into neck radius!

I'll stand up for Carvin yet again in that department. I've never felt a better, easier to play neck, ever. And I love Les Pauls, so that's saying something.

So it is with intent on my own part that I reference them. On Carvins website, there is a page that has "in stock" guitars, you may have a look at those, so you don't have to wait the seven weeks it'll take to get one custom done.

Enjoy!!!
i have checked that out and I like the white one. Beautiful, but it's not my gift. I emailed them with my needs and they emailed back suggesting a TC3 and an amp for about 1500. Excellent, now, I think I have to design it. Need some input...

PS Merry Christmas!

good points all around on the choices. They were mine as well. The Taylor neck on the acoustics was the easiet to play for me, like butter. I like the feel of the Les Paul, but, again, not my gift. Buying the Carvin purely based on recommendations and reviews is enough for me!

and now, I need some help specing it out!

Honestly, the shaved Les Pauls have the best necks I've ever played.

Spec'ing out a guitar from Carvin is quite fun actually.

Do you like the Les Paul Style? I'd gladly help.

PRS takes the cake if you ask me, next to a 68 LP Custom...

Carvins are great. I think the recipient will be thrilled!!

Here is a STUNNING CT6 for sale. If you spec'd this out, it would have been over $1900, and that would still have been cheap. But this guy will take $1200 for it.

Frankly, if he still has this in a couple weeks... Jus sayin...

That's quite a piece. I feel terrible/hate playing guitars that look that nice, just because I will inevitably F something up, I have a beautiful flame top 60s LP that I got when I was too young so it has some flaws... Which is why my next purchase will be VOS/aged my 2000 Standard LP has been played maybe 10 times.
