Teamspeed Spies Catch VW's 235-mpg XL1

The production version of Volkswagens XL1 has been spotted during hot weather testing today, and we're happy to show you some photos of the 235-mpg car. The XL1 will have two power sources. One is a small two-cylinder turbo diesel injection delivering 50hp, while the other is a 30hp-strong electric motor. Both units deliver power to the rear wheels via a 7-speed DSG transmission.

Open the gullwing doors and you'll will find an interior looking very similar to the one seen in the concept car. You'll also notice the very narrow rear track—the wheels sit quite far inside the body. Expect the wheels to be covered by full wheel covers to help the aerodynamics when the XL1 hits the market in 2013.

Looks much better than the Prius. I love how small this is, would look even better if it were just a bit wider.

Might be only 80hp, but I'm sure it has a lot of torque. Looking forward to seeing this car revealed

The rear lights remind me of the Maserati 3200 GT.
