Got to shoot a SCAR + ACOG, review!
First of all let me say up front that I'm NOT a MW player but I realize that this weapon has been made popular by the game and probably by it's ridiculous price tag. (More expensive=better right?)
This was a rental gun at a nice range, so it's taken care of but well used. The rental counter guy said tens of thousands of rounds, but who knows what internals, barrel, etc... had been repaired/swapped.
Ok, so the gun is supposed to be very reliable. We put quite a few rounds through it and shot it back to back with my AR (DPMS, barska 1x scope) and a range AR (double star, EoTech).
So.... First of all the ACOG is awesome. Very clear, and I was a bit worried about magnification (this was only a 25 yard range, lol!) for closer shooting but no need. It's just enough.
About the SCAR itself. Well, it does shoot very well. Accuracy at that range, I mean you can't miss. But it does cycle very smoothly with less kick than either of the AR's making rapid fire more controllable. Tighter rapid fire groups than the AR, no question, I'm sure that would only increase at range.
Downsides? Feel wise you'll have to decide whether you like it. The plastics give it a bulky feel and even though it's weight is really not noticeably different from an AR it's distributed differently. I liked it.
Bolt action.... We had several guys shooting, and more than one had issues with this. You've got moving parts cycling on both sides of the weapon and we had a couple guys have ejection problems due to their grip. I personally had first round load issues trying to manually close the bolt (trying to be nice to the poor thing) when you really just need to yank it back and let it go.
All of this is certainly operator error, but for a weapon that's gonna be used in stress and time sensitive situations....? It seems a little touchy.
Final downside is of course the cost. You can build a hell of an AR/M4 for $2500 bones. I did really enjoy shooting it, it was great fun. Add it to my "if I had all the money in the world...." list.

Chris, I know a few people with them and all of them love it. It was a pleasure to shoot, no doubt about that. I just don't get why they're so costly, is the manufacturing that expensive, or are you paying for the upfront R&D?

I posted this photo before but will add my opinion of the SAR16.
First I was an FFL so I bought mine direct from a Distributor, Zanders.
My total cost was $2100 (plus all the extras).
I was able to get free shipping, no sales tax, a free FNH forearm extender($220 value), and a promotional ammo voucher for $90 from FNH.
I added a Magpul forearm angle grip, a Magpul grip, 15 extra 40round P-Mags, and an EOTech EXPS3 Holosite.
The gun is a great all-rounder and performs flawlessly.
I could have gotten the H&K556A1($2800) but opted for this instead.

Like you said, lower recoil and tight groups.
Does take a little time to get use to the ergonomics.
I am not a huge gun nut so I do not have a lot of experience with various guns.
I knew I wanted something that I would hold on to and not trade up to.
My FFL is now expired so I will sit tight with my acquired guns.
This site is the first for the Gary Busey thing - Ha!
These are the 2 Magpul grips I added - made a BIG difference!!

So have you had any problems with your P-Mags not locking back on the last round? I have heard about it but not experienced it. I might just buy a bunch of the HK steel mags...
Which Mag-Pul grips are those (not the foregrip)? I wouldn't mind changing my pistol grip - it's really small and not comfortable.
Also, I've changed my cocking handle to the right side of the gun to keep it from smacking my hand since I hold the receiver. I use the "AK hand-over" technique to charge it. Does it ever smack you?
