Optics for M1A SOCOM 16
#22
My SCAR has a tan 553.A65 SU-231/PEQ, a Tango Down MK46 grip, and a single point sling. I tried and tried to find a factory short barrel for it, but I've given up. From everything I've heard, FN can sell the SCAR as long as it doesn't sell OEM NFA parts here. There are a few shops that'll chop the stock barrel, but then it's ALWAYS a tax stamp gun. I need to put some rail covers on it and I'm done.
The SOCOM 16 will get the optics and that's about it. It already has a Trijicon front sight and a nice muzzle brake. I suppose I could put an adapter on it and slap the can on it... Hmmm.
For the AK I bought, I don't plan on doing anything more than putting Trijicons on it.

Micro-GALIL sweet mother of Mary.... that is sexy.
Chris from Cali: Get no more than a 4x unless you are an amazing shot because Socoms won't typically put more than 2.5 MOA past 350 yds unless you are hand-loading.
Get yourself a nice slip-on cheek rest when you get any scope since your face won't be lined up properly.
Happy Hunting!

I appreciate the insight, but I've got A LOT of experience with ACOGs. I had a very early 4x32 on a short AR-15 back in the day (before Picatinny rails). In my experience the 4x is perfect for 5.56 guns, but I need a little more reach for 7.62. I'm not worried about shooting micro groups or I'd have gone for standard barrel gun. The 6x48 will give me that reach to shoot quickly and accurately out to 300m. My rule is that if it's past 300m, I'm better off running than engaging!
The scope that really intrigues me is that Elcan Specter DR 1-4x. It looks so cool and I love the fixed Elcans I've used in the past. The big advantage to the ACOG is that there are no batteries required (other than the RMR dot on top).
If I ever get a long-range gun, I'll do this:
Accuracy International .338 Lapua Magnum

...on your slingshots and crossbows. Dude, you're dating yourself. Besides, CfC don't need no effin' gun to git 'er dun.
