Thinking of switching from Springfield to Beretta...

Oh... good point. Do you have a carry permit that's valid in NYC? Aren't there like only a few hundred of those?

About what I'd expect for a group that generally only shoots once or twice a year during qualifications.

Overtaker, that # is the total permits in the city total, not carry. It includes residence and business permits which are about 90% of those. It also includes retired cops. The number of carry is very small and unrestricted carry is even smaller for civilians.
Scott, yes, I am licensed in 35 States, including all of NY.

"Those licensed to carry guns in other states and even other jurisdictions within this state still need local approval to bring weapons into the five boroughs. According to the License Division, more than 800 people have this approval, including State Senate Majority Leader Joseph L. Bruno and comedian Buddy Hackett." source
So that's ~800 total carry permits in NYC, not counting retired police.
But some animals are more equal that others:
Retired law enforcement:
Applications: 1,113
Issued: 1,046
How long is the permit valid?

The NYC permit is valid for 3 years and then you must reapply all over again. It is also about $600 after all fees. Not a pleasant place to live for pro2A people. LOL
They also register your serial #'s and limit your purchases to no more than 3 per year and only 2 may be on your carry permit. The rest must be on a residence permit which is another application and fees again.
Remember, we have 10 million residents so it is a really small # who carry here. The downside is if somehow someone notices they get nervous and may call 911. It is very important to stay concealed.
