After talking to a few friends that are gun owners/avid shooters I have heard the same thing from all of them. To just spend the money and get the real deal. And knowing me that a .22 simply won't keep me occupied for a very long time.

After doing a tid bit more research last night and listening to friends and fellow TS'ers I think that you guys are probably right. How is it buying a used AR-15, recommended? Anywhere I can look online?

Buy an AK and call it a day
Honestly, I shoot my .22 the most though, ammo is cheap and you can shoot hundreds of round with no shoulder pain; you will just straining your index finger from firing so much! But people complain saying it's a "girls gun" - if so, could I shoot you with it and test this theory out?

Sean we should just go up to Oaktree and rent a few rifles... That's the only way you'll know for sure...

Yeah this has been my decision. My trolling of the internet looking for info isn't really helping the decision making, So many options. At the end of June/beginning of July we should go up and rent a few guns and see where that goes.

Thanks everyone for the advice! Will keep you guys updated when things start to happen.

Question - Would it be cheaper to build the rifle myself or have a gunsmith do it, rather then buy it already built? Bad idea?

^ slippery slope, you will learn alot building it yourself, but do you want to fire the first test shot? IMO I would buy a complete rifle for your first firearm
