LAPD deployed 30 cops+helo for legal Open Carriers
This is what happens when you let the Democrats take guns away from you. That citizens legally and openly carrying (In CA, you have openly carry an unloaded gun with full mag on you, but NOT in the mag well) are met with super hostility from the police department, while we still have a huge gang problem...

I suppose I started it...
First two responders called me over. SHE told me "they knew why we were here (at the coffee shop)". I said we were law abiding citizens simply here to drink coffee and listen to cool jazz (live band inside). At that moment their radio went heavy with traffic, with an officer needing assistance........NOT RELATED TO ANY OF US!
So, apparently, we were such a horrible, terrible, major concern to LAPD...... that we were asked to stick around until they could come back. All UOC participants were present at this time.
Then, like a bad movie script, blue suits began to slowly fill the streets and sidewalks. "Mikes" video was already full on, and I hit the record on mine. But, since they were doing nothing but interfering with street and foot traffic (especially heavy with the local live theatre opening its doors right then).
After a couple of false starts by LAPD, they began their approach. The officer that took me aside, while being pleasant enough, quickly had my hands on my head and in his control grasp. IMMEDIATELY, HANDCUFFS WERE EMPLOYED. Now, being that "Mike" was accused of concealment, I purposely used my Hogue Speed holster so as to assuage ANY doubt that I had a gun in the open (no part of the gun is covered, except for a tiny portion of the trigger guard). This, of course, absolutely bewildered the young Cop as he attempted to draw my 1911. With much mirth and a few giggles from me, I step-by-stepped him through the exotic release: "Push that down with your thumb, draw forward...push down..no, down..with your thumb...down...now draw forward....forward...forward.....close enough." Even more curious, NONE of the many senior officers had a clue how to clear a 1911. "My" Cop figured it out, but had no idea how to wipe or engage the safety (I carry cocked and locked).
All of us clearly objected to the full on, illegal detainment, and told the incident Sergeant (Hamilton) just that. His excuse was that a MWAG call gave him sufficient cause. I told him that there was nothing illegal about a man, with a gun. I then asked if his Dept. had distributed the well known statewide distributed memo, outlining UOC and all pertinent PC's? He said they did. I asked why he was not following those simple guidelines? He said a MWAG call didn't apply.
I then asked why he did not ask the first responding officers as to what our actions were prior to his arrival. He only had a funny look to give me.
At this point, the cuffs were removed and we "allowed to leave".
The rest should be on the videos.
I carried all the way home, stopping for Dr Pepper in Ventura, and gas in Buelton.

Walking around an urban area, open carrying is a stupid move, especially in LA. Those officers did nothing wrong, I would be a lot more upset if police didn't respond to calls that there are men with firearms.
Morons like this going around trying to test the limits of peoples comfort with 2nd amendment rights, is what gives fuel to liberals to clamp down on gun laws.

I'm from the concealed carry camp and believe that open carry can be used in an educational manner, but it will almost always draw negative attention. That said, I have no problem with what Mr. smartass and his pals did, they followed the law and were fully prepared to deal law enforcement should any MWAG calls go out. Maye next time the freaked out citizens who called 911 will think twice next time and after this experience will go read a bit about 2nd amendment laws in their state.

They do not issue CCW to plebs like us, so I am glad there are people like mr smartass out there educating (and suing) PD's.
