Believe me, I get it. It's a novelty item to 98% of the population. It is tough to not have a big ol grin when you can sit in your backyard and plink though.

The Sig P226 Blackwater Tactical (get the tactical, which is the new one - the plain Blackwater is the old one) is, in my opinion, the best mass-produced handgun available from a major manufacturer. Obviously handguns are very personal decions with lots of factors, but for me, all-around, and I currently own - two Wilsons - a NightHawk - a couple of Glocks - a Walther, and have owned at one time almost everything else, it is the best all-around gun out there right now unless you spend the money for a custom.

Great size and feel, extremely accurate, 20+1 capacity, comes with 4 mags, great sights, and great grips. Controls are very well laid out, checkering on grip and front of trigger guard is very fine. I put mine through a 4,000+ round, 4-day combat handgun course without touching it with a rag, and it had nary a hiccup, and I could not tell I had fired a gun. No fatigue at all, no rubs or scratches. Just a pleasure to use. And, IMO, both the best Sig made, and a bargain when you factor in the mags, grips, sights, etc.

You can't go wrong with either, I love my P226 Elite Stainless in .40 S&W. If you aren't going to carry it I would go with the full sized P226 over the smaller P229, and the Blackwater is a great choice.

Had a regular 226 as my first gun in 1988 and then a Blackwater next year great stuff ...I would buy an HK for the price of the Blackwater though.

Had a go at a 226 in .40 not too long ago and really liked it. A very nice and solid shooter opposed to the .40-chambered XD-M I also tried that day.

When it comes time to buy make sure you check out: http://www.topgunsupply.com/

Top Gun is a very good dealer that is highly respected on the Sig forums. They have a lot of good choices in stock, great prices, quick shipping, and are very professional/responsive. I have purchased several items from them and I would highly recommend them.

Hey Brother! Ashley still has my gun, but the trigger job's done. I just haven't fired it yet. He was supposed to bring the kids over for dinner the other night, but I had to cancel.

As a practical matter though, I don't keep one in the pipe as there's no manual safety, so anytime I'm pointing that gun with a round chambered, it's single-action. And the single-action trigger is very sweet. Especially with that reduced travel trigger on subsequent shots.

It's only hard-asses like Ashley that make you practice shooting double-action . . .
