Meeting w/ judge, any advice?

I have a meeting with the local judge to get the restrictions removed from my CCW license. Currently, licenses are only allowed to be used for transporting a handgun, to and from a target range or hunting grounds.

Any advice on things to say/not to say beside the obvious?

Thanks.

Take your gun, hold it to his head, and say "either your brains or your signature will be on the contract."

That should do it.

There is only one handgun license in NY, a CCW. Most counties only issue them with "target & hunting" listed, meaning you can only carry and conceal on the way to those activities.

Some counties will remove the restrictions upon request, most are pretty strict about removing them. Some counties won't issue even a restricted license. However, if you violate the restriction and carry anyway, the most the can do is take the license away, they can't charge you with any crime.

So, in order to own a handgun in NY, you must have a CCW?

With a the restrictions removed, what are you allowed to do?

Yes. In fact you are not allowed to handle a handgun in a store without a license, you also need to have a deposit (or full amount) down to buy a gun before you can apply for your permit. So follow this logic, in order to handle a gun legally in a store you need to have a license, but you can't get a license unless you buy a gun. Welcome to NY gun laws.

Basically the same as any other license. You cannot carry anywhere in NYC (the five boroughs), schools, etc.

Some counties in New York do this, others do not. There are some that allow you 30 days after you receive your permit to purchase a gun. Each subsequent handgun purchase must be approved and then added to your permit before you can take possession.
And yes, it is illegal in New York state to have physical contact with a handgun unless you have a carry permit.
The enforcement of this varies. Upstate, many people in law enforcement consider these laws to be absurd.
In NYC, unless you know someone, the only handgun you can have down there is one that shoots rubber bands.
