SSC Tuatara

For comparison:
NRE/Tuatara Engine = 1154hp/7l = 164hp/l on pump gas.
Venom GT = 1244hp/7l = 177.7hp/l on pump gas.
Agera S = 1040hp/5l = 208hp/l on pump gas.
Though to be fair the 'egg runs at 20.3 pounds of boost whereas the NRE engine runs at 14.4. Not sure what the Venom GT runs at.

Nelson had been talking for a while about building a full billet aluminum DOHC engine that would rev to 9,000 rpm, and then it just kind of died. I had no idea it was slated to go into the Tuatara. Anyway, it's disappointing that it never came to fruition, but I believe the tech is there.
Also, 200 hp/liter from a modern turbo production engine is really not a big deal. 9,000+ rpm from a 7 liter V8, however, is.

Can we expect first Tuataras before the end of the year? According to Top Gear Poland - yes, we can!

Promising, that things are starting to happen at last. Hopefully SSC will go from strength to strength once they get the Tuatara to market.

This is what 1350HP & 7 gears of paddle shiftin-Tuatara powertrain look like before installed in an XT

And this is what the Tuatara powertrain looks like installed in the Ultimate Aero XT engine bay.

The Tuatara power plant
SSC Fans:
It may come as no surprise to some of you that SSC North America selected Nelson Racing Engines (NRE) for a collaborative project over two years ago. Many of you correctly guessed that the project was the Tuatara power plant. NRE has a reputation for achieving monstrous efficiency in their forced induction engines.
“It has been very impressive to see what we have accomplished by integrating designs from our existing bespoke engine with NRE’s long-time design expertise in high-output, forced-induction engines,” says SSC’s founder Jerod Shelby. “It’s also great to see what two American companies are able to produce when they put their heads together. We are very proud of this power plant, and we’re confident that the automotive enthusiast will be also.”
ENGINE DETAILS:
The Tuatara engine is a bespoke motor (not an LSX motor) that is being developed by SSC and NRE in two stages prior to final design package integration. A pushrod version that represents the first stage has already been completed. This version has allowed dyno and real-world road testing (Ultimate Aero XT) of all newly integrated designs. The second stage of development, which is in process now, integrates the DOHC portion of the design into the package. SSC has decided to shed the carbon fiber engine covers to show off the “all business” look of their savage new power plant.
There have been zero project failures to date, and we’ve exceeded all design and performance specifications so far. Thanks to our fans for their continued support - keep tuned in for upcoming project updates!
