CAR Magazine: Next Bugatti Will Hit 288MPH
by John Coyle
With its astronomical top speed, the Veyron has been king of the supercar mountain since its release in 2005, and the following years saw top speeds rise from 253 to 267 mph. But even though Koenigsegg's Agera R—unconfirmed terminal velocity: 272.8 mph—are nipping at the Bugatti's heels, the company has no intention of surrendering it's crown—the next version of the Veyron will reported hit a staggering 288 mph. To get there, the mighty quad-turbo W16 will gain an additional 1.6 liters of displacement—netting another 400HP—and shed 550lbs. Zero to 60 time? 1.8 seconds.
It's unclear what aerodynamic tweaks will be done, but since every additional mph is exponentially harder than the last, I expect we'll see some trick tech involved. Stay tuned...
