Genty Akylone revealed online

Genty Akylone revealed online

After yesterdays teaser pics and videos, the Genty Akylone has been officially unveiled online, along with all the juicy details.

The French company has posted up computer renderings of its Akylone and along with them, some background information about the company.

It began four years ago, and its goal was to produce a car that retained the values of high power and low weight, to return to the driving pleasure that eludes most cars.

However a big claim is made. Genty says the Akylone's "power to weight ratio has never before been reached by a vehicle of its class." Hmmmm. We'll see about that.

Powering the Akylone is a 4.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 making 1000hp and 1200Nm. Oh yes, peak power is made at 8000rpm. All that is channelled through a seven-speed sequential paddle shift gearbox to the rear wheels. That should be plenty to fry the 335mm rear tyres.

It'll go from 0-100km/h in just 2.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 350km/h. The quarter mile will be dispensed with in 9.8 seconds, apparently.

With a weight of just 1100kg, you'd think that it would slow down fairly easily no matter what anchors you use, but Genty says you'll need 396mm carbon-ceramic brakes for the fronts and 380mm for the rears. Hey, who are we to argue? And in case you're wondering, its weight-to-power ratio is 1.1:1.

With new supercar startups seeming to arrive every thirty seconds these days, it'll be interesting to see how the Akylone is received. Certainly, Genty's confident, touting that it "can rely on a network of reputable European and US partners as well as local craftsmen who are reputed the world over."

They're big calls. Whether the Akylone makes it from CAD stage to production, though, only time will tell.

I always wonder where these boutique manufacturers get the money to build the cars and sustain themselves......I mean, it takes millions to develop right? and how many units will this car sell?
