Bugatti said the stock wheels are specifically designed for aerodynamics or brake cooling (can't remember which) and should not be changed. This was on a video at Jay Leno's Garage.

That actually doesn't sound too far-fetched to me. I remember Jay Leno once saying that he preferred driving his (at the time) C5 Z06 to his F1 because if something happened to the Corvette, he could just pull it into a shop and wale on it with a hammer and all would be good, but if something happened to the F1 he had to load the damn thing onto a plane and have it sent to Woking for any type of service.

Actually, lots of foreign Veyrons are regularly seen in Molsheim by french spotters. The latest one I recall is the Qatari Bugatti Veyron Centenaire (the blue one), being seen a few weeks ago!
