This result should have been totally expected.
A car with 4 turbo chargers should beat a naturally aspirated car with nearly 400 less bhp.
The Vey is a great car. But I would still take the F1 and buy a Scud with the change.

A bit confusing that Hammond says they are both built without any compromise. In the F1's case I agree but I consider the Veyron one of the best all-rounders in the world which inevitably means it's a compromise. Compromise doesn't necessarily mean it's worse, but I wouldn't say it's as focused as the F1.

You could buy a Veyron and then get an F50 with the change for the going rate on McLaren F1s these days. F1 road cars are trading at $2.5M or higher these days, with one selling late last year at auction for $4M.

If you are talking about 6 or 7 years ago, then I can believe that might be true. If you are referring to something more recent then you would need to be more specific about which car and where it was for sale. If recent, then I have a feeling you may have been looking at a price in British Pounds and not US Dollars, or you were looking at a bogus advertisement altogether.
The last F1 I am aware of that sold for such a low price was chassis #022 in 2005, and that car needed $300,000 worth of work by the McLaren factory in order to bring it back to suitable condition given a lack of care by its previous owner. A year later another F1 out of the collection of the Brunei Royal Family that was also in need of similar amounts of work changed hands at auction for $1,705,000 USD. The market for road cars in any condition has been above $2M USD ever since.

I very well may have remembered it wrong. Although I love the car, I'll admit that I am not the resident expert regarding resale values.
