Yesterday was a great time. My roommate, best friend, and I took off around 3pm starting a ~4 hour drive down to Detroit. Our seats were decent. Best I could find Saturday morning, without paying $250+ per ticket. The intensity of the game wasn't nearly as high as was the hawks game a few weeks ago, but still a great one to watch. No one was sitting for the last couple minutes of the third. Man was that place loud. Almost as loud as game 4 last year against San Jose, which was the loudest I've ever heard the Joe. Not only did this game mark the Wings winning 20 straight at home, but it was also Lidstrom's 1550th game for the Wings. Second to only Gordie Howe and first for any player still in the league. He got a standing ovation as well, and the players on both teams tapped their sticks. This stuck with me for some reason. Maybe the fact that even though two teams are fighting it out, there is still some time to pause and show a little respect. Going into the third the game was tied 3-3 after a goal late in the second by the wings. First shift of the third, and the Wings weren't f'ing around playing Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Lidstrom, and White. I noticed this about 10 seconds into the period and knew that a goal was coming. Surely enough, some nice passing and the score was 4-3. Philly had a few good chances through the third but Detroit was able to hold on. Glad we made the last minute to decision to go. Almost 8 hours of driving was exhausting but worth it to be at that game.
On a separate note, I've learned that Winter Classic tickets are going to be Bernie Madoff expensive. Running near $1000. Nothings on paper. D-town and UofM will take a hefty profit off this event. For now were waiting to see what kind of packages will be available, but planning on getting tickets to the game, GLi, and maybe the Alumni game.
