Forsberg to play for Avalanche tonight - NHL.com - News

Personally he's one of my favorite players, but even in general its great to have him back in the game (US side of it that is).

The Avs are 7 points out from 8th right now, and took some injuries in Minnesota but do you think this will give them a better shot at the playoffs? How much impact on the Avs will 21 make? How well will he be personally with the reoccurring injuries?

You know, hockey is one of those sports where the great ones seem to be able to play well into their 40s and 50s. I play weekly with guys in their 50s and 60s that are still really great. I think he'll give them a boost.

JonA85 02-11-2011 07:52 PM

I dout he will finish the season too, but he was so good back in the day.

McRae 02-11-2011 08:13 PM

although I have never personally been an AV's fan Peter is a GREAT two way player and I think his addition will have a positive impact on the team

Peter Forsberg retires two games after returning to Avalanche | Reuters

"Swedish forward Peter Forsberg of the Colorado Avalanche will announce his retirement on Monday, two games after returning to the NHL after a three-year absence, the team said.

Forsberg, 37, played in Colorado's 3-1 loss to Columbus on Friday, and then in the Avalanche's 5-3 setback to Nashville the following day, failing to score in either game.

He had a minus-four rating in the two games with three shots.

Forsberg, who played for Modo in the Swedish Elite League last season, is a former NHL MVP who won two Stanley Cups with Colorado and Olympic gold medals in 1994 and 2006.

He has 249 goals and 885 points during a 12-season NHL career with Quebec, Colorado, Philadelphia and Nashville.

Colorado has dropped seven successive games, the franchise's longest losing streak since moving to Denver for the 1995-96 season.

Forsberg will hold a news conference in Denver later Monday to discuss his decision to retire."

I figured he would take up a minor roll. This is pretty disappointing, but not unseen. Oh well.
