Rutten says Strikeforce without HWs is like basketball without a net

Nothing solidifies expert opinion in combat sports more than having the experience as a legendary competitor. Iconic martial arts authority, Bas Rutten, has been at the forefront of MMA analysis for quite some time now, and as the co-host of HDNet's popular, Inside MMA program, fan's have grown accustomed to Rutten's wit, charm, and trusted opinion. Bas is a very busy man these days, and practically impossible to miss, with multiple forays into other endeavors that include: coaching, color commentary, gym ownership, writing, developing training products, producing television programs, and starring in Hollywood feature films with such superstars as Kevin James. Bas' acting career is doing so well in fact, that he is now being represented by Kevin James' agent, and is receiving scripts for major film projects. In a recent interview with TapouT Radio, Bas opined on some of the hot topics happening in MMA right now.

Strikeforce dissolving the heavyweight division

“Ouch, that's like getting rid of the net in basketball or something. I don't know what else to say, what is that? That's almost a racist comment to me. They are singling people out, why would the heavyweights not be exciting? Maybe they feel like they don't have enough anymore? I don't know, but that makes no sense to me. I love heavyweights, everyone loves heavyweights. The biggest thing in Japan is heavyweights. You know, you don't even need to be good, if you're heavy, you can have a great fight in Japan. They love big people. People love knockouts, and it always is, most of the time with the heavyweights because they hit so frickin' hard. It makes no sense to me.”

HATE FOR JONES IS SIMPLE: HE'S FAKE

Some people say fans don't like Jones because their racist, jealous, anti-Christian or simply haters. However, I think it's more than that. Jones has talked publicly about trying to say the right things in press conference. Stuff he says in interviews seems scripted. He talks about being a brand and taking on the role of being a superstar.
I had never heard the Jones hate was racist or anti-christian. I thought that everyone who didn't like him did so because he's trying to bring NBA stlye fakeness to MMA. The above is kind of like stating the sky is blue?

On a side note, just saw strikeforce last night. Cyborg is ridiculous, in a good way. After the fight did you see her pick her husband up? LOL!

Big Nog: 16 Screws in Broken Arm, Can Fight Again in 6 Months | UFC News & Rumors | MMA News & Rumors

"Antonio "Big Nog" Nogueira should be able to make a full return to MMA in about six months, according to the doctor who put 16 titanium screws in his broken arm. Along with the fracture, Nog suffered some nerve damage that was also repaired in the operation he had yesterday. As reported by ESPN, Big Nog's physician, Dr. Tom R. Hackett, wrote this on Nog's blog:

"Mr. Nogueira suffered a complex fracture to his humerus. The fracture began in the middle of the bone and extended to the elbow region. Unfortunately, the radial nerve was damaged. The nerve is located in the area of the fracture, and the bone compressed it. Before the operation, he had very little strength in his hand and no strength whatsoever in his thumb.

"The operation involved an incision behind the arm. The nerve was removed from the location of the fracture and treated. The fracture was fixed with a plate and 16 screws, and now, less than 12 hours post-op, his hand functions are returning and the bone is mending.

"If all goes well, he'll be back to full training in the coming months and should be 100% to fight in six months or less. We foresee him making a complete and full recovery."

This is great news for the Brazilian fighting legend and his fans. Big Nog has been thrilling audiences for years and here's hoping that his recovery is complete and that he'll be better than ever."

6 months or less to fighting? That sound incredibly optimistic to me.

How 'bout Mir VS Big Nog III? Maybe this time, Frank can mix it up a bit and destroy an ankle.

Picture of the day: Georges St. Pierre begins knee rehab - Cagewriter - UFC Blog - Yahoo! Sports

"The UFC welterweight champ tore his ACL when training for a bout with Nick Diaz. While the UFC moves forward with an interim belt, George St. Pierre is at the beginning of a long road back to having a healthy leg again.

That started with surgery, which was deemed a success, and now rehabilitation. Above, he is in a continuous passive motion machine, which prevents GSP's leg from getting stiff without putting him in pain."
