Real Madrid returned to training today after a day of rest to prepare for Saturday's mouth-watering fixture agaisnt Barcelona in El Clasico and did so with all members of the team, with the exception of Kaka and Royston Drenthe, who are both still doing work to recover from respective injuries.

As reported by Marca, Kaka is in the final phase of his recovery from the sports hernia that has kept him off the pitch since March 10. It is still uncertain whether the Brazilian star will return to action with Los Blancos against Barcelona.

Drenthe continues to undergo treatment for a muscle tear in his left leg that has kept the young Dutchman out for two months. He is unlikely to be included in the squad for Saturday's Clasico.

Coach Manuel Pellegrini hopes to recover Kaka tomorrow so that the Chilean can observe the midfielder's fitness in the next four days of training before El Clasico, and determine whether he will be able to include the creative Brazilian in the squad list and even possibly the starting line-up against Barcelona.

On April 10, Cristiano Ronaldio will be Madrid's Walcott, only better, more polished, sharply chiseled and with more quality and talent, and the home fans will be the force behind him. Barcelona's rearguard isn't necessarily the best in the world and does suffer at times when pushed back with pace and intimidation, and Madrid will have to take this approach.

Of course, the problem playing against Barcelona is that they always seem to have the ball, even when they lose matches. Which implies that Madrid will have to take special care that they do not lose possession cheaply. You don't need statistics to prove that the Merengue midfield and attack have been guilty of giving away the ball easily on several occasions and against Barcelona they will have to cut this down to the bare minimum, or better still, stop it from happening altogether.

Will Cristiano Ronaldo Redeem Himself?

Of course, Madrid do not have the obsession or the patience to pass their opponents to death but with Ronaldo they have the reliability of pace and briskness. You can bet that Barca will keep the ball longer than Madrid but it is with what they do that matters, or rather, what Madrid allow them to do that will be crucial.

It's not that Barcelona haven't lost this season: Pep Team have ended on the wrong side of the scoreline thrice: against Rubin Kazan, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid. Atleti always tend to defeat Barca anyway; Sevilla's characteristic English-style football meant that they kept the pressure on the Blaugrana defence, stopped the movement of the ball from the back to Barca's midfield, thereby cutting out the supply, and spread the ball wide to stretch their full-backs; Rubin took shots whenever they saw empty space and tried to cut the supply chain in the midfield.

It wouldn't be improper if Madrd adopt similar strategies and since they have better resources than Rubin, Sevilla and Atletico, they should be confident of inflicting on Barcelona only their fourth defeat of the campaign.

oh mr. like.no.other...

It doesn't take the abandonment of all 'pure' or 'attacking' football principles to beat Barcelona. Consider the performances of Sevilla in the Copa del Rey, Atletico Madrid in La Liga, Rubin Kazan in the Champions League and you have Barca's three defeats of the season - none of which were expressions of the dreaded 'anti-football', and Atletico Madrid in particular aren't an opponent which Barca underestimated. Add to that the fact that on the more high-profile side of things, both Real Madrid and Valencia have outplayed Barcelona this season in highly anticipated matches, albeit to a 1-0 loss and a goalless draw respectively - it was Barca who were luckier on those occasions.

what do u have to say about that?

Of the three matches you quoted only the Atleti example was apt, Barca played a second string line up against Sevilla and against Rubin even there striker fell back to midfield to defend. Madrid won't play defensive football plus there are no good at it anyway Madrid will attack create spaces and pay for the consequences. Plus there is no glory in playing defensively and Madrid should be out for revenge (2-6) case and point

Ohh and in response to your avatar 911 S 2-6 in madrid

Calm down guys no need to start posting for no purpose… it is very simple logic

Barcelona is still in the Champions League because Barcelona is the better team.
Is that so hard to understand?

Oh and God is on our side
