One of the biggest upsets of all time IMO. The US team's current ranking is meaningless here. They'd looked pretty putrid with their recent play, and only b/c Italy didn't put up a fight against Brazil did the US advance based on goals scored.

And Spain obviously had been playing like a #1 ranked team for the past, oh, 35 games. It obviously wasn't 36 today, though.......
