what would you expect to do. As you said he's a scum bag. Bastard. Love to understand what the defense has up their selves.

Their strategy is to get it transferred to the middle of nowhere and hopefully hoodwink a jury into some sympathy. If the prosecutor starts to feel any insecurity he may deal the dude down to manslaughter.

You are right that he had no other choice. This is such a high profile case that the DA could not possibly do any type of a deal.

I'm sure there will be some element of mental and/or personality defect brought up by the defense. I forget if his parents are still together or divorced. If divorced, the defense will probably try to mine from that as well.

He's still a douchebag at the end of it all.

*Edited for posting out of haste*

Kid is a piece of shit for sure. But, what would you do if it was your 22 year old kid? Would you feel an obligation for justice, or do everything in your power to protect your kid (considering the severity of the crime)?

I think it's precisely why our justice system is (rightfully) structured the way it is, to represent the people in a consistent and unbiased manner. There are a lot of good people put in tough positions, who feel incredibly difficult obligations to their family and loved ones - even when they have ****ed up.

I bet he gets it down to manslaughter. Either way, this guy needs to do some serious jail time. Wasn't this his third DWI?

Something like that. I agree, and hope he ends up in jail.
