NFL Draft- Top "Busts" as #1 Pick In Draft

Yup! It was really fun having him as my QB during college, he helped us bust the BCS the first time (yes we kick ass and have done it twice now) and the fiesto bowl was an absolute blast.
BUT.... is he even still in the NFL? As a loyal Ute I will proudly claim the biggest NFL #1 bust in the last decade.

I hope he has changed, but when I was living in San Diego during his first few seasons, he was a total train wreck.

Right now, Alex Smith is the 3rd string QB for the 49ers, behind Shaun Hill and Damon Huard. He is well on his way to bust status. In his defense, he has had to deal with a coaching carousel in SF, with three coaches and three different offensive philosophies in three years. I would guess that we have not seen the last of Alex Smith. He could be pretty good in the right situation.

Season Team G QBRat Comp Att Pct Yds Y/G Y/A TD Int
1996 Baltimore 16 88.7 325 549 59.2 4177 261.1 7.6 33 19
1998 NY Jets 14 101.6 259 421 61.5 3256 232.6 7.7 29 7
Those are two damn good seasons for any QB, esp. the '98 season.

Vinny got stuck playing for Tampa Bay when they were pretty woeful, which slowed his development. He finally started playing well when he got to the Ravens, then the Jets. Busts don't have seasons like this in the NFL:

I'd vote Bruce #1 of the #1's.
Hard to argue with Leaf. It's amazing how many experts felt he had more "upside" than Peyton and was more of a "Brett Farve".
