Sir Alex Ferguson Craves Manchester United - Barcelona Champions League Final
The Red Devils manager has described the prospect of playing the Spanish giants as “unbelievable”...
Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson is crossing his fingers that Barcelona will be their opponents should the Red Devils reach the Champions League final this year.
The Scot has rejected the notion of a repeat of last season's all-English final, when United beat Chelsea, although he has suggested that he hopes to face Arsenal in the semi-final.
Should the Red Devils beat Porto in the quarter-final, they will face either the Gunners or Villarreal, while the winners of Liverpool - Chelsea will meet either Barcelona or Bayern Munich in the other semi-final.
"Hopefully, we will get through to meet Barcelona in the final, and what an unbelievable match that would be," Ferguson is quoted as saying in The Sun.
"Hopefully, we will have three English clubs in the semi-finals, a situation that again reflects the quality of our Premier League.
"I’ve got to say, though, I am glad we are in the section of the draw that keeps us away from Barcelona. The Spanish team represent the biggest threat in the competition.
"They had a wobble a few weeks ago but have picked up again and are in terrific form at just the right time.
"Their first-half performance against [Olympique Lyonnais], when they won 5-2 at the Nou Camp, was brilliant.
"They are rightly one of the favourites to win the competition."
