Juande Ramos Doubts Liverpool Goals; Admits Real Madrid Were Inferior

Real Madrid were completely taken apart by a rampant Liverpool side in the second leg of their Champions League last-16 encounter when they crashed to a 4-0 defeat at Anfield and their coach Juande Ramos was bitterly disappointed with his side’s showing.

The man from La Mancha acknowledged that the Reds’ two early goals left them on the back-foot, but he questioned the eligibility of the strikes.

“I am very disappointed that we are out of the Champions League. However, I have doubts about the first two goals,” he said during the post-match press conference.

“We tried all we could but the tie was complicated and we left ourselves open when we went in search of the equaliser. And they were able to punish us.

“In this competition, you are playing against the cream of Europe. And over the two legs, Liverpool deserved to go through to the quarter-finals,” he added.

The former Sevilla and Tottenham Hotspur manager then rallied his troops to look forward to the remainder of the campaign.

“Everyone is a bit down, but we will train hard and prepare for the next game. We can still come back in the Primera Division and compete with Barcelona,” he concluded.

The 4-0 defeat, 5-0 on aggregate, was Los Blancos’ heaviest defeat since the competition was re-named the Champions League. They will now turn their attention back to La Liga where they are faced with a daunting test against Athletic Bilbao.
