Arshavin Edging Closer To Arsenal - Reports
The last few days have produced conflicting reports with regard to the transfer saga of Andrei Arshavin. First there were claims that Arsenal were close to signing the midfielder, but then it came out that their inability to match his valuation would see them lose out.
However, speculation in today's British tabloids insist that the Zenit St. Petersburg star will soon be arriving at the Emirates Stadium.
The Sun alleges that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has sanctioned a bid of up to €17.5 million (£16 m) which includes add-ons depending on number of appearances and goals scored.
Apparently, the 27-year-old could sign in time to feature in the FA Cup fourth round tie away at Cardiff City on Sunday.
"There is no concrete news yet but on Tuesday there could be," the 41-time capped Russian international's agent, Dennis Lachter, is quoted as saying.
It seems that Zenit manager Dick Advocaat also feels that his wantaway playmaker will soon be plying his trade in North London.
The former Rangers and Holland manager was quoted in The Belfast Telegraph as stating: "Negotiations with Arsenal continue and the chances are very high that Arshavin will soon play in the English Premier League."
