Milan To Tie Beckham Down Until 2010?
Milan announced the arrival of David Beckham from Los Angeles Galaxy last October and the England international will be officially unveiled next Saturday.
The 33-year-old will then leave with the rest of the Rossoneri squad for their winter camp in Dubai on December 29, and will start his brief Serie A adventure after the Christmas break, before returning to the USA next March.
However, newspaper La Repubblica reports today that the Via Turati powers-that-be are looking into the possibility of signing Golden Balls until 2010.
Apparently, there is a clause in the former Manchester United ace’s deal with the Los Angeles outfit that would allow him to unilaterally rescind it and his lawyers are prepared to activate it, should he opt to remain at Milanello to further increase his chances of earning a call-up to the national side for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The only stumbling block could be represented by his massive wages of €5 million per season, but Milan are prepared to let him keep hold of his worldwide image rights, while managing the ‘Beckham Brand’ themselves in the peninsula.
