Alonso threatens to quit F1
Formula One news: Alonso threatens to quit F1 - GPUpdate.net Formula One
Double Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso has said he would think about quitting his Formula 1 career if the sport will start racing with standard engines. The FIA might introduce strict engine rules as of 2010 to reduce costs.
"If they approved that, it would be the last straw. It would be time to think about retirement," Alonso was quoted by Reuters. "In 2005 we had a V10 engine with 1,000 horsepower. That was what was exciting for the driver, motor racing at the limit.
"We have gone from the futuristic to cars without grip or electronic aids which look like something from the past."
he's right ya know...

He's right about the engine regulation, to a degree. Nascar-esque engine regulation would improve the sport, but single-vendor engines would hurt it pretty dramatically.
As for whining about not having eleventy billion pounds of downforce and enough driver aids to allow someone's grandmother to drive the car: Waaah.

I'm in favor of giving every team a box say 30" tall, 70" wide, and 130" long and let the car look like whatever they want with whatever powerplant they want if it fits in the box. Make an engine formula allowing for large, NA engines down to small, highly-boosted turbo engines. Imagine the innovation...

This is what the formula has been lacking but supposedly it's in the name of cost-cutting. Makes sense that teams have to pony up a fortune to get in but they're not allowed to spend to improve.
