Went to a membership event for the Atlanta Motorsports Park the other night at MB of Buckhead. Pretty good turnout and presentation to try and sign up some more members as construction begins. Bob Varsha was there mc'ing the event along with lots of other sponsors.

Looks like they are shooting for a track similar to NJ Motorsports Park and Monticello but I'm a little hesitant to join at this stage. I know a few people who were founding members of the Alpine Motorsports Park in PA and that has been stalled for a long time now. AMP seems to still be in litigation with a lawsuit filed by the residents near the track. Anybody more familiar with this project?

I'm pretty familiar with the project; the site is just off Duck Thurmond Rd. in Dawsonville - a very nice town with lots of other great driving roads in the area. Essentially, the residents don't want the noise that the track will bring; recall that Hall County, Georgia (where Road Atlanta is located), which is only a stone's throw away, prevents race engines from being cranked before noon or so on Sundays.

Guest, what are your thoughts on the residents winning the suit or other matters preventing this track from being built in GA? Alpine was started in ~2002 and has been held up by legal matters, than environmental matters and then financial troubles.

 

Honestly, it really depends on how well they have ingratiated themselves with local residents and how prominent the opposed residents are. Dawsonville is no stranger to development; North Georgia Premium Outlets is just outside the town by 400, and it is by far the nicest outlet mall/outdoor shopping center I've ever been to. It draws a well-heeled crowd from Atlanta and it hasn't prompted animosity from residents, so hopefully AMP can do the same.
