Bourbon Steak

Robert Caldwell

The right wine with the right food it's a match made in culinary heaven but did you know the same can be said for cigars and desserts? A South Florida restaurant is bringing the two together and the results are smokin.

There are no just desserts here at Bourbon Steak in Aventura's Fairmont Turnberry Isle, cigars and desserts are proving to be the best of friends.

ANDREA ARAIZA: "Bourbon steak is working together with our cigar aficianado our cigar consultant to feature cigars and their pairings and just to let people know the great things about cigars and how they can be paired with different things one of which is desserts."

That consultant would be local cigar honcho Robert Caldwell the marriage of cigar and dessert is a no-brainer to him.
ROBERT CALDWELL: "You're typically gonna smoke your cigar after the meal so we try to pair a cigar with a dessert where it would go well."

The question is how do you know which smoke goes with which taste treat? And what would some of those undertones be, oh cigar guru.

ROBERT CALDWELL: "They'll have cocoa they'll have an earthy undertone anisette maybe a honey maybe a coffee flavor and we try to pair them directly with a dessert that has a correlated flavor."

Got it the night Deco showed up, chef andrea was working on a dreamy, creamy delight.

ANDREA ARAIZA: "We're making a nutella pudding which is essentially a panna cotta which is italian for cooked cream."

And why did you decide on that, o dessert goddess?

ANDREA ARAIZA: "Talking with robert and discussing the cigars he mentioned a few different flavor components that paired well with the cigars in terms of dessert and some of those were nuts coffee and chocolate so this dessert has all three of those."

Sounds like a plan chef andrea created the taste treat and it was good. If your date doesn't particularly want to puff on a stogie no worries.
