^^ahh...try a true burgundy...it changed my mind...i'm also a sucker for the bordeaux i referenced above...
on average, i agree with you, though. i'm a pinot hound and stick to Sea Smoke, William Selyem, Kistler, Ambullneo, and Kosta Browne. as far as cabs go, I like Bremer Family and a few others.
the are a couple of other problems with french wines, IMO: authenticity here in the states, storage (who knows how it was stored...in the states I establish a relationship with the winery and buy direct), and price (usually much higher for the grand crus, etc).

Blends are the norm for me and I've got simple tastes.
