That's exactly my point. SUV's are the poster child of compromises. They do nothing well but many things o.k. ( yea, I own one for the family). Porsche was a company that is all about the purest form of driving, uncomplicated and full of no compromises. Look how long it took Porsche to put a cup holder in a 911. This is a company that said "there is no substitute". This is/was a company that doesnt believe in bastardizing or compromising their cars for anything but pure performance driving. It was that way for most of Porsche' history. This is not a company by philosophy, that builds SUV's.

I am going to leave pricing out of the equation. What I am getting at is a sportscar company that only makes sportscar suddenly making a off road vehical. They are two completely diffent animals. If your proctologist decides to do brain surgery the next day because it was a popular procedure, you might think twice about if it was a good idea to request his services.

The Cayenne didn't hurt 911 sales one bit. It increased it.
The suv brought customers that would have never thought twice about a Porsche before it. After they are hooked on the Cayenne they now wonder. Damn I wonder what their 2 seater is like.

If I owned Porsche stock I'd be pissed if they didn't go after the SUV market. Ferrari hasnt yet. Maserati and LameBo as well. They will they'd be idiots not to.

The reality is that it's all about money at the end of the day. The purity and passion of a brand usually dies with its founders. Porsche is a business. VW is a business. Lotus tried to become a business (let's see where that goes). As businesses, they will pursue any opportunity that inovlves making more money for themselves and their respective shareholders. And with products such as the Cayenne and Panamera raking in the big bucks, why would they stop expanding their portfolio? Unfortunately, the auto industry doesn't build cars for purists anymore. Sure, you have your little mom-and-pop operations but how far can they really go? For purists, they reserve their most expensive products: the GT3RS 4.0, the Carrera GT, etc. What they're basically saying is: You want purity? You want passion? Pay an arm and a leg for it! It's the sad truth, but at least, it's the truth.
