356 coupe - dream or reality
#11
The current issue of Excellence has a 356 buyer's guide in it...
I am also a big 356 fan - my dad had a '65 356C that had 911 seats, brakes, lights (the 911 was just going into production and he had one of the last 356s). They are getting very pricey now. You could also consider a replica - there are a few really good ones out there that will make fine drivers for about $40K.

Unfortunately the A-range (earliest) are the prettiest and at the same time the least trustworthy ones from what I hear.

The best move is to get the latest one possible. Most developed, most HP, etc. The very best ones are over $50K now (coupes). My dad's was probably worth at least that, but he sold a few years ago.
Unless I find a GREAT one, I wouldn't pull the trigger. The upside is that parts are relatively inexpensive (compared to modern Porsches).
