my wife is killing me tonight. she's a huge car fan and I'm showing her the gt1 and all she said was.....What does he have on the floor? So I better ask what epoxy you used? Is it slippery?
Have fun this weekend.

some photos of the GT1
First off, thanks to Rick Deman and Deman Motorsports who do a bang up job maintaining the race cars. Rick spent about 6 months getting the GT1 back to perfect new condition. And wow did it run great.
We were at Monticello this weekend, and brought the Cup Car, the boxster and the GT1. The boxster, for those who havent taken one on track, is a totally fun fast car. Its got all kinds of umph with a 3.2 motor, and headers, and decked out inside. I personally like it a lot since its well balanced, fast enough, but doesnt get away from you quickly.
The cup car we sort of kept on a leash as we've been working hard to get the Motec technologies sorted out. we hvae one of the new VCS video technologies, and the can bus was giving us some headaches. but the car ran strong. somehow the car got out of alignment between our last stint in it and saturday, so we just ran it to get data.
but the GT1 was the big fun. Excellence magazine was there early to do a photo shoot on the car. we had full access to the track at 7am, thanks to the great guys at monticello. what a great venue. tucked away in a gorgeous country-side, only an hour from my house. fun , curvy track. amazing asset.
we drove around solo for a while and snapped a bunch. set the car up on certain turns and snapped a bunch. then, when the track went hot at 9am, we took her out for some hotter runs.
to be frank, i run the boxster as hard as i can. the cup car i wont hestiate either to do that. but the Gt1, im sorry, i just can only stomach going 6/10ths or so. you cant really find replacement body pieces.
i found the throttle response to be excellent, and the turbos had good pop. i'd liken it to a 993 Turbo kind of feel.
but the car just was stable as all hell in sweeping turns. i chewed off some good curbing here and there and it didnt flinch. where the boxster woudl rumble over some of that, the wheels, the setup just motored across all the curbing without blinking.
the downshifting was tough to figure out. its a tight tight toe box, like a DP or other formula style car. but i started to figure out. basically wher eyou might usually opt to brake with your right big toe only, here you had no option, you had to brake that way and just roll to blip. after 20,30minutes, i was better, but i wasnt thresholding it anywhere so that too makes it a tad tougher.
there were some good crowds lining the fences snapping away. they had a few clubs there that day so it was packed, but it always felt empty onthe track. i guess a 3.5 mile loop can do that.
i ran it 3 sessions, and had no flaws, no check engine lights, no drama, no grief, no spins. i think id like to put some slicks on it, as the "slickish" street tires left me wanting.
then again, i have to remember its a 1 of 2 GT1. gotta have some prudence.
but wow....i kept saying , "they just dont make them like this anymore".."coould you imagine if it was a production race car where youc ould get parts that you mash up??"
anyway, here are some photos that Gregg Giachi took. he's a fantastic photographer and a good friend. he trailed around with the Excellence photog

According to an article I read on Sportauto only 2 street legal Porsche GT1's were ever made with the 993 look. They were built in 1996. The rest of the 24 street legal GT1's ever made were built in 1997/98 with the 996 design.
It was originally sold for about 1,5 million Deutsch Mark, which is about 750.000 €. Now the prices range closer to 1,4 million €.
The power output were between 544-600hp depending on the model but, correct me if I'm wrong, I think these older 993 GT1's had 600hp whereas the later models were detuned.
Not bad owning one out of two cars ever produced
Congrats to the owner!

Excellence is a word that definitely fits the 993 GT1. It's amazing that owner of such a rare Porsche is a member here and he is sharing his passions with others. Thank you very much for the photos and impressions SPG.

that was at like 7am when we basically just walked the track and found a few spots for the excellence writer/photog to find spots. definately had my lid on. im a safety girl for sure.
that car is tight, so just doing 25mph to get it from one photo shot to another, i put the lid onthe seat. but 1000% when that car or any car gets going, its cage, helmet, man up for bear.
