it's driver ability my friend.
AWD, FWD and 4 Wheel Drive give people false sense of safety and ability; thus why you always see SUVs, and FWD cars off the roads during snow storms....IMHO, FWD, AWD and 4 Wheel drive encourage bad driver ability and do not encourage someone to actually 'learn' how to drive.

For normal, or even spirited driving, AWD is useless unless there's ice involved. In light to medium snow, all you need are a good set of snow tires and a functioning brain.
Where AWD is useful is when going stupidly retarded-fast on ice and snow.

I have driven, in Wisconsin, all my RWD cars year round with snows. 645cic, M3 conv, M3 sedan, CLK, C36, C220, 330cic, Boxster S etc... That being said they were not even close to the A4 I had in 2006. That thing was unstoppable!

Quoting Stoppie "IMHO, FWD, AWD and 4 Wheel drive encourage bad driver ability and do not encourage someone to actually 'learn' how to drive."
So Stoppie, reading into your statement I guess you have had FWD, AWD or 4 wheel drive all your life?

You show me one corner and two cars, and I'll guarantee you I'm exiting the corner in the AWD car faster than in the RWD car.
If you think there's no benefit to AWD in dry conditions then you aren't driving that AWD car quite right
