Depends on how much of the work you want to do yourself.
They really aren't tough cars to put together. You can disassemble an entire car, bag and document everything. Send the unibody out to have all the reinforcements added, then dipped and painted/finished. Meanwhile you can have the motor built or source a hotrod motor for a good price. Then get everything back together and replace consumables and worn out parts. Sell all the stuff you don't use on the pelicanparts classifieds.
The most economical way is to start with a 911SC or Carrera 3.2 with really good mechanicals, but a ragged out interior/exterior and then get your game-plan down from there.
