If it's your first car buy I would advise you to save some more money and buy a newer car that wont give you any headache. Just my .02$.

Edit: If you must buy a car I would advice buying something like this; http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Audi-A3-2-0T-2006-AUDI-A3-2-0T-SPORT-SKY-COLD-WTHR-PCKGE-FACT-W-Y_W0QQitemZ170298748333QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_ Trucks?hash=item170298748333&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 &_trkparms=72%3A543|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1308#ebay photohosting

You shouldn't be buying a car to land tail...

That being said, neither of those cars will land you any tail.

If I wanted a car and had 7k, I would save some more and buy a bus pass.
If I needed a car and had 7k, I would buy a 6k Civic/golf/Jetta/Corolla (also known as a "coRolls-royce") and have 1k in my back pocket for any repairs that come up in the first 2 months.

my $.02
