Race Six Formula One Greats in F1 2012's Championship Mode

The wizards at Codemasters have just announced a new "Champion Mode" for F1 2012, which allows players to go head-to-head with six champion drivers, including Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher. To be clear, you can't just jump right to Schumie, as you have to move up the ladder by beating the other drivers in various challenges. Only then will you get a shot at besting the most victorious driver in Formula One history.

To keep things interesting, each driver challenge will have a unique settings and circumstances. With Räikkönen, for example, you'll be his teammate at Spa Francorchamps, pulling out of the pits with fresh tires. The task will be to take advantage of the fact that he's on worn rubber and pass him within three laps.

Against Hamilton you'll be Down Under at the 2010 Australian Grand Prix, betting that a public relations problem two days previous will make him too distracted to win. In Britain, you'll have to defend your lead against Sebastian Vettel—who arrived late to the track after clowing around with David Letterman—and when you finally face Schumacher, he'll have his family and a taxi driver in tow, battling to win the German Grand Prix—in a Sprinter van.

Actually, only one of those senarious is in the game. But don't they all sound fun? If you're going to be at Gamescom in Cologne, Germany between August 15th and 19th, you can get a sneak peak of the real challenges. Otherwise, you'll have to wait next month when F1 2012 will launch for XBox, Playstation and PC. Watch the video below for a taste.
