Caterham's 300bhp SP/300.R sets lap record at Cholmondeley
- Caterham's SP/300.R takes overall win
- Achieves fastest ever lap of 61.89 seconds
Caterham's 300bhp SP/300.R took on all comers and delivered the fastest lap for a car during the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, the annual show held in the grounds of Cholmondeley castle.
A collection of the world's most expensive and fastest supercars, including models from Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini and the Ariel Atom V8 500, competed head-to-head in various classes during the three day event, which also featured fully-fledged race cars and classic Formula 1 vehicles.
Caterham's first new model in more than 15 years demonstrated just some of its potential by shattering the previous lap record of 62.68 set by Lamborghini in 2010.
The new Caterham competed against other ultra fast British-built vehicles including the BAC Mono, Ariel Atom V8 500 and Radical SR3 SL, which were all vying to take the overall win and fastest lap.
The new lap record for the 1.2 mile course, which previously stood at 62.68 seconds, was completed in 61.89 seconds by Caterham Drive Experience instructor, Scott Mansell.
Andy Noble, Caterham Cars Sales and Marketing Director, said: "The Cholmondeley Pageant of Power has been growing in statue for several years now and it is a truly excellent event, anybody who's anybody is here and that is partly why it is so satisfying to take the lap record and secure the fastest time for a car around this beautiful circuit.
"Even with other exotic and extremely quick vehicles on track, we were quietly confident but we weren't necessarily expecting to take the outright lap record in conditions which were less than ideal; it was very wet at times and nobody got any fully dry running."
The recently for sale supercharged racer, created in partnership with Lola Cars, sits alongside the legendary Seven in Caterham's product portfolio, remaining true to its lightweight, minimalist DNA to deliver thrilling performance.
