Rumormill: Vettel Signs 2014 Ferrari Pre-Contract

Two British newspapers on Sunday reported an explosive rumour about F1’s reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel. The Independent on Sunday, and the Sunday Times, separately said the Red Bull driver has signed a pre-contract to join Ferrari in 2014.

"Insiders are adamant that the German has signed an option with Ferrari for 2014, subject to competitive form from the Prancing Horse stable for the rest of 2012," said the Independent.

The Sunday Times agreed, adding that Vettel’s current Mark Webber could also moving to Ferrari to replace Felipe Massa, but only for a single season in 2013. Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari contract runs until 2016.

"It is not known whether the Vettel option is binding on either side, but if there is a one-year Ferrari vacancy for 2013, it strengthens the case for Webber being the man to fill it," said the Times.

I thought Alonso had more pull than that within the Scuderia, but, like just about everyone, I would love for this to be true.

No driver would pass up driving for Ferrari especially after they've already won a title.

I think Seb is better off sticking with whoever Adrian Newey is working for. He doesn't need Ferrari, although I know he's mentioned before how he'd love to one day drive for them. It's a shame Kubica had to get injured and open up this spot at Ferrari.

I could more easily see Seb at McLaren to be honest.

I've never been a Vettel fan but cannot deny his talent.

He and Alonso are just always there and they are undoubtedly the two best+most consistent talents currently on the grid. Though I have my doubts that it'd be a harmonious working relationship...both of them are short-tempered and have quite a bit of a diva complex.

I bet the drama would be great for F1; almost like a modern day Senna & Prost.

What if Alonso performs better than Vettel in this season and the next?

I doubt this is real.. Until someone in the F1 circus with some credibility reports this (not many and none have mentioned this) I won't believe it.
