The writing is on the wall for Massa

'Ferrari to assist Kubica's comeback' | Planet F1 | Formula One News

Rumours of Robert Kubica's potential move to Ferrari - should he return to F1 - refuse to die down with the latest reports claiming Ferrari will aid his comeback.

Kubica has been sidelined since his a rally accident last February when he suffered broken bones on the right side of his body and an almost severed right hand.

And despite a minor setback, the result of a slip and fall on ice earlier this month, the Pole's recovery is reportedly progressing well.

According to Italian publication Omnicorse, Kubica is back driving using a Renault Megane with an automatic transmission.

He has a good range of movement is his right arm - 'flexing and extending of the right arm are already back to normal' - but there are still problems with rotation movements.

But, with his 'five hours a day' in physiotherapy, the 27-year-old is on the road to recovery and aiming to climb into a simulator in the not-too-distant future.

After that, the goal is a Formula One car, which is where Ferrari are believed to be entering the picture.

The Pole, who has reportedly signed a letter of intent with the Italian stable for the 2013 season, will, according to Omnicorse, get behind the wheel of a Ferrari F10 in June if everything goes according to plan.

The car, which will be fitted with the new turbocharged 1.6-liter V6 engine that will be introduced in 2014, will be outside the test ban regulations, allowing Kubica to put in the miles.

This will give the Pole the opportunity to evaluate his progress without too much pressure. And it could pave the way towards a comeback with Ferrari.

The Pole ain't going to be back in 2013 I feel, but Massa is still in trouble for 2013

From Italy comes a story that Ferrari is waiting for Robert Kubica to return to health and will then test him. Alas, I fear that this is largely wishful thinking. Every credible source that I have in Poland is saying that Robert’s primary battle is to be able to lead a normal life in the future. If he is lucky he might be able to compete in some form of motorsport, but I have yet to hear anyone suggest that there is any serious hope that he will get back to F1 in the future. It is a question of mechanics more than anything else. If Robert’s nerves, sinews and muscles are all working as they should be working then nobody really doubts that he has the drive and willpower to make a comeback in F1. But if things are not perfect and, for example, there are problems with rotating an arm in a certain way, or with the sensitivity of a hand, then t is very unlikely that he will ever be able to get back to where he was. It would be terribly sad if this was the case, as Robert is a man who was standing on the verge of major stardom. We will see what transpires, but it is not wise to get one’s hopes up at the moment. It is a year since the accident and that gives you an indication of just how serious the injuries were.

Kubica wasn't that good?

He was an overachiever considering the cars he's driven. Put him in a McLaren, Ferrari, or RBR...and he'd be a championship contender without a single doubt (before his accidents). If he hadn't gotten hurt, he'd already be driving for Ferrari with Massa looking for a ride elsewhere. Felipe should consider himself fortunate to stick around for an extra year.

You know, because coming in 4th ahead of a two time and very skilled Fernando Alonso isn't that good.

I'll just note Alonso can make horrible cars look good, but still to beat Alonso?

Pushing the bias out of me because I'm Polish, Robert Kubica is one hell of a driver. Like Alonso, he makes bad cars look good.
