So we had the Pontiac G8 GT/GXP which were related to the Holden, did we (US) ever have the Ford equiv.? I think not but am not real sure....is it based on the Mustang chasis?

Ford Falcon, which is not based on your mustang chassis it is the last to be designed here when Ford swap to global platform sharing..

But in reality both chassis in the race share little with their road going cousins due to the rules..

This is some of the most exciting racing I've ever seen. There are battles for 1st and 2nd as well as 10th and 11th! I love it.

Yep. The cars are basically space frames with different bodywork, not as extreme as the DTM cars, but nothing like they were even a few years ago.
