Heidfeld Prepared To Bring Legal Action Over Renault Drop
As the BBC reported yesterday, Renault driver Nick Heidfeld is set to be dropped by Renault in favor of test driver Bruno Senna for the remainder of the 2011 campaign. But Heidfeld does not plan to go quietly. Although Renault has not officially confirmed the move, the Daily Telegraph has reported that Heidfeld is prepared to bring legal action in order to keep his seat.
Heidfeld joined Renault as a replacement for injured star Robert Kubica but has failed to meet the team's expectations. Despite a podium finish in his second race at Malaysia, Heidfeld has only scored 19 points since then and has not finished higher than 7th in any subsequent grand prix.
While a desire to increase funding may have inspired the move to bring in Senna, it would likely only be a temporary fix. With Kubica still working towards an F1 comeback and GP2 contender Romain Grosjean waiting in the wings if Kubica fails to return, neither Senna or Heidfeld appear to be in Renault's plans for 2012.
It should be noted that - despite harsh criticism from Renault team bosses and the move to replace him with Senna - Heidfeld has outscored his teammate Vitaly Petrov in 2011.
