Anyone into karting?

Aside from being able to get hammered off two drinks and the ability to curl up like a little baby and sleep in an airline seat, karting is the only things you tiny people have over us "giant" people.

Oh I can fit in a kart just fine. My problem is that I'm just too hamfisted to be fast when driving one. I somehow manage to get by OK with my race car though...

thats all in your head, if you're quick you're quick. give it another shot and try to manage the weight transfer, focus on that first, forget about the lap times. karts are very sensitive contraptions, you need to play one like an instrument, back it in to a few corners and you will feel like bloody schumacher

If you lived in the NW you could do this...
Wed. Warrior Enduro racing returns next week to PGP
The only multipurpose motorsports park
of its kind in the Pacific Northwest
Wednesday Warrior Enduro racing returns to PGP next week; sign up NOW!
Rental kart endurance racing returns to PGP Motorsports Park next week with the Wednesday Warrior Enduro series on June 29.
Form a team by grabbing one or two of your friends, family or co-workers and then come up with a winning strategy. Don’t play well with others? Go it alone as an Ironman and get a special discount on your registration rate.
Wednesday Warrior Enduros consist of a practice session followed by one 30-minute segment and one hour-long segment. The team and Ironman completing the most laps over 90 minutes will hoist winner’s trophies at the top of the PGP podium.
Driver check-in closes at 6 p.m., followed by a driver meeting at 6:10 p.m. and racing from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Kart assignments will be made based on a random draw, with new karts assigned after each segment. The field will be inverted based on a random draw.
Pre-registration is a must because events are limited to the first 20 teams or individuals running in the Ironman class. Registration forms can be found at PGP Motorsports Park - Seattle karting, Supermoto, drifting, go kart rentals, racing school under the “Racing@PGP>Rental Kart League>Forms/Info/Rules tab.” Teams can consist of one, two or three drivers ( minimum age 15) with cost based on number of drivers:
• Three-person team driver: $50 member, $60 non-member
• Two-person team driver: $75 member, $85 non-member
• One-person IronMan/Woman: $125 member, $135 non-member
Rental kart events are rain or shine and are open to the public with no prior racing experience or competition license required. You show up ready to experience the thrill of racing and PGP provides the rest — the kart, fuel, tires, helmet and a state-of the art venue.
The schedule of remaining Wednesday Warrior Endurance events is:
• Wed., July 13 Wednesday Warrior Endurance Racing
• Wed., Aug. 3 Wednesday Warrior Endurance Racing
• Wed., Aug. 17 Wednesday Warrior Endurance Racing
Thank you for choosing to play at PGP Motorsports Park!

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm going to try out some arrive and drive at a couple different places, there seem to be some good options within a reasonable distance from me. Four 15 lap races for $85 doesn't seem too bad, the karts look pretty fast too.

Yes, I'm a Kart racer and local. Around here there are two main leagues:
F1 Outdoors (Club & Rotax Max East)
Granite State Kart Championship.
Around here most people run Rotax 125 Sr. class. CRG is big (F1/SCC East) and Mike Camera (GSKC) runs GP karts.
If you are looking to get into it I would suggest starting with the F1 indoor leagues. Some of the best competition around and best bang for the buck. I've won the last 5 or 6 sprint/pro leagues I've raced in.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you want any more info or are going to be at the track in the next few months. I can introduce you to the local racers.

Is there a karting shop in the area where I could go talk to some people about equipment and such (if I decide to move past arrive and drive, which I likely will)?
