In a press release entitled ‘Good News!’, the Sauber team has confirmed that Sergio Pérez has sustained no serious injures after his heavy crash in Monaco Grand Prix qualifying. The 21-year-old Mexican, who lost control at the Nouvelle Chicane for a currently unknown reason, has been submitted to the Princess Grace Hospital after suffering concussion and a sprained thigh.
The full statement from Sauber reads as follows:
‘It was with great relief the Sauber F1 Team received the news that Sergio Pérez has no serious injuries after his heavy accident in the closing minutes of the final part of qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix. Shortly before 15:00 hrs he had crashed into the barrier after the fast tunnel section of the circuit.
The 21-year-old Mexican was taken to the Hospital Princess Grace in Monaco from where the team received further information at 16:25 hrs: The doctors said Pérez had suffered concussion and a sprained thigh, but no broken bones and, following a scan, they could find no further injuries.
The reason for the accident will be investigated and the team will update the media as soon as it has any further information.’

When I saw the crash being covered up with sheets (or whatever they were) by the workers, I feared this accident was much much worse...especially when SPEEDtv didn't show them putting him in the ambulance (similar to what they might do had it been a fatal crash). So relieved to hear he'll be alright. I wish there was a quick fix to that dip coming out of the tunnel that has even the best cars ending up a bit loose and out of control, and I hope the race can go without further incidents.

I don't know why he covered his head with his hands, as Marc Gené and Pedro de la Rosa stated (they are comenters in TV here) it would have been better to keep them inside grabbing the belt. Because with the inertia de head would squash the hand between the helmet and the edge of the cockpit.
