Risk Versus Reward: Why Kubica Went Rallying

Over the past few days I have read many articles about Robert Kubica's crash.

One of the most common questions is "why would he risk it for a rally race?"

The article below answers that question with aplomb.

The article comes from the subscriber only PLUS section of the Autosport website.

I bootlegged it (so sue me).

But it is an absolute must-read for any racing fan.

Enjoy the read and give your thoughts below.

that's who i would be on the phone with. well, steve robertson anyway.

excellent article dana, racing drivers simply have it in their DNA to compete or participate in activities that get the blood flowing. its as simple as that. they are bored to tears unless they are doing something that has their heart rate going. i know incidents such as this make it difficult to justify the upside but i believe the chase of a thrill is too powerful to abandon for the remote possibility of injury or death.

Godspeed to robert, i hope he recovers fully and is not penalized for following his desires. that is what life is all about after all.

btw, if you come across any other gold articles in your VIP section feel free to post them up brother

Great article that really does highlight the race car driver mentality. I hope Rob makes a swift and full recovery and finds himself in an F1 car before too long but I'm not betting on it just yet. He knew the risks but chose to take them anyway.

I'm now very interested to see who will take Kubica's seat in the meantime. I'm hoping it's Hulkenberg.

Agreed. Kimi is phone call number 1. If that doesn't work, call some pagan witchdoctor to tie Bruno Senna to Stonehenge, cover him in pig's blood, and do some kind of rain dance to try and get Ayrton's spirit to possess him.

I think Hulk has a better shot at getting the seat over Kimi, and of the current F1 drivers, I'd rather see Hulk get it over Senna.

They won't have two second year drivers.

I am thinking Heidfeld.

Heidfeld supposedly is denying the speculation of getting the seat...
