Confusion reigns over

It is being reported by that John Button, father of 2009 World Champion Jenson, is believed to have told Italian police that his Ferrari road car had been stolen this week, only to seemingly later realise that he had forgotten where the vehicle was parked.

According to a selection of local reports, the 150,000-pound 550 Maranello was reported stolen by the former rallycross driver, with the 65-year-old positive that he had left his car outside the hotel in which he was staying on the Italian Riviera.

It is believed that police initially thought a thief had been involved, with the car in question carrying distinctive Monaco number plates, although some 24 hours after an alert was issued in the town of Alassio.

“We had a report from John Button, the racing driver's father, that his Ferrari 550 Maranello had been stolen from outside his hotel,” police spokesperson Massimo Molinari explained to the press. “He had told us that he was in Alassio for a shopping weekend and that, when he left the hotel in the morning, the car had gone from where he says he parked it.

“The next day one of our patrol cars found it about a kilometre (0.6 miles) along the coast, completely safe, and so we immediately informed him - there was no damage to the door lock or windscreen.

“He says he parked it outside the hotel, so it's a mystery really, but we are trying to clarify how the car ended up where it was and whether he may have forgotten where he parked it.”
