Renault keen on Buemi

From PlanetF1.com:

Renault team principal Eric Boullier has admitted that his team are considering signing Sebastien Buemi for the 2011 season.

The Toro Rosso driver's current contract expires at the end of the year, potentially leaving him a free agent, and Renault have signalled their interest in the Swiss driver.

"Sebastien is on our list of potential drivers for 2011," Boullier told the Le Matin newspaper.

"He even has a special place on it, because I know him well and like him very much on a personal level," Boullier added.

Despite being outshone by his younger team-mate Jaime Alguersuari for the majority of the season, a scintillating drive in Canada saw the 21-year-old draw lofty praise from Red Bull boss Dr Helmut Marko.

"His Montreal race was perfect, exactly the kind of performance we expect from him," said Marko at the time.

"If it continues, we might consider placing him in the Red Bull team in 2012."

While the possibility of graduating to the Red Bull team will certainly serve as incentive to re-commit to Toro Rosso, the recent progress made by Renault could leave Buemi with an interesting choice to make.

With the performance that Renault has been showing this year, I think Buemi would be a great fit for the team next year, especially if Kubica goes elsewhere. On the other hand, Buemi could replace Petrov just as well, imo.

Buemi doesn't have Daddy's wallet though.

I think Petrov represents a significant new talent for F1 and Renault. Of course the Russian rookie driver is full of DNF's, but he has also completely out dueled Alonso and Schumacher on a few very exciting occasions, and made Hamilton stretch his limits. Petrov is a F1 rookie who regularly shows considerable talents and even moments of brilliance along with a raw enthusiasm that completely ignores the current F1 hierarchy. And he seems to bring some serious Russian money! Renault should give him one more year and then evaluate what they have. His high driving energy and refusal to be bettered by his 'betters', may be the start of a real winner

Bodhii makes a pretty decent point. Petrov does have a lot of natural talent, especially compared to every other current F1 rookie.
