The first Grand Prix in Russia has now been hinted as joining the calendar in four years' time by F1 commercial rights holder Bernie Ecclestone. The race is set to arrive after India makes its first appearance next year, with the United States returning to the fray in 2012.
With plans for a Russian Grand Prix having been in the pipeline for some time, Yuri Reilyan has now said that FOM (Formula One Management)'s Ecclestone hopes to see it join the circus by 2014.
"He has suggested holding the first Grand Prix in autumn 2014," Reilyan, the Deputy Regional Development Minister, is quoted as saying by business newspaper Vedomosti, with the city of Sochi - already confirmed as home of 2014's Winter Olympic games - still tipped as the most probable location.
"It is too early to speak about the budget," Reilyan added. "The final project is yet to be established - it will be done by a committee, which will be established by the end of this year."
