nice sweeping generalization

pack on topic, iLewis is seen and paid to be a role model. He shouldn't be doing that kind of stuff on public roads right outside his place of work.

If that's the case, I guess iAlonso is paid to be a douche and iMassa is paid to be a whiner.

Although we are indeed a bunch of hooligans and hoons, a long run of knee jerk leadership has lead to some seriously harsh penalties for things such as 'excessive acceleration'. We have it pretty relaxed out here in Western Australia, but over east it is Police state type stuff.

Heaven help you if you break traction. Instant impound of your car.

Just the other week a hotted up Mini was impounded for what are called 'hoon laws' - the car was being test driven, and the cops still took it from the dealership - even though noone from the dealership was in the car.

Not too long before that, a California was seized during a car reviewers vigorous testing on public roads. Even a doctors exotic was seized after the workshop owner was caught doing a double tonne in a 60 zone - lost the car for a month.

Just a shame he got caught.

Cheers,
Nik

Not sure why you all start bashing Australia and the Aussies just because Hamilton got busted doing a burnout. Judging by the comments the cops should have just let him go because he is Lewis Hamilton. Sorry it doesnt work like that. He broke the law, end of story. F1 has a drive safe program that all the teams sign up to, so how does doing burnouts in the middle of a major metro city in Australia support that image - oh sorry IT DOESNT.

Lewis isnt being paid to be a role model, but he is held up as a role model, same as all these moron soccer players and rugby players we see on the news every week for beating their wives up, or bashing someone in a nightclub.

Should he have lost his car over it, nope, that was too harsh. Should he have been fined or something similar - Yes. Most cops are assholes no matter where you are, Australia, New Zealand, Europe of the United States and the phrase "using their discretion" doesnt come into the vocabulary.

Anyway, shit happens and the media made more out of it than it was, surprise surprise. I would say Lewis learnt the lesson and something I heard today is that some teams have it built into their contracts that if a driver loses their normal drivers licence then their racing contract is suspended. Seems like the teams view those sorts of things as a bit of a no no as well.

Anyway onwards and upwards, qualifying done and racing tomorrow.

Ned

That is definately not the case! The Aussie's and Kiwi's I know are BIG FUN to have a few pints with. Plus you both have great countries to drive in. Unless you are being a douche.

Just because Lewis got caught it doesn't mean that if you just brack traction in Australia that you will get caught. There obviously would have been a lot more police patrolling the area than usual. I see cars doing burnout etc. occasionally and I have never seen them being pulled over.
