I must not pay enough attention to detail. I also noticed that Ferrari used the "v-nose" at the Nurburgring last year.

That is a new design.

The pictures in the book clearly show that there is a gap between the fin and the rear wing.

as you can imagine this setup would be more structurally sound and should be more effective. adrian newey has joked that they will only get rid of the shark fin if you see the cars rear ends skip sideways in a straight, apparently there is significant aerodynamic benefit to keeping them.

I could see that. I was thinking it was for more stability with the whole car.
